• Ernesto Alonso(1917-2007) - Mexican actor (pictured) who was a regular fixture in the golden age films of Julio Bracho, Alfredo Crevenna and Emilio Gómez Muriel. He also narrated Bunuel's Los Olvidados and appears as Eduardo in the filmmaker's version of Wuthering Heights and as the title character in his The Criminal Life of Archibaldo de la Cruz. He appears as himself in a documentary titled Speaking of Bunuel, which is included in Criterion's release of The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie. Beginning in 1959 he turned to a career in television, for which he acted, directed, produced and shot Mexican soaps, earning him the nickname "Mr. Telenovela." He died of pneumonia August 7, in Mexico City. (Variety)

  • James T. Callahan(1930-2007) - Actor best known for playing the grandfather on TV's Charles in Charge. He also co-starred in Lady Sings the Blues, Inchon, Return of the Living Dead III and Stephen Frears' Hero. He died of esophageal cancer August 3, in Fallbrook, California. (LA Times)
  • Hal Fishman(1931-2007) - Television news anchor who appears as himself in Joe Dirt, Crocodile Dundee in Los Angeles, Malibu's Most Wanted, National Security and the documentary One Six Right. He also plays a reporter in Black Sunday (off-screen voice only) and an anchorman in Spiderman 3, Wisdom and Jimmy Hollywood. He is said to be partially the basis for The Simpsons' anchorman character Kent Brockman. He died of cancer August 7, in Los Angeles. (Variety)
