For people who love movies, rock 'n' roll, and movies about rock 'n' roll, American Cinematheque's Mods & Rockers Film Festival is a little slice of heaven. The 8th annual edition went so well this past July that they're bringing back a miniature version Oct. 5-9, with each night devoted to a different icon.

Take a look at a brief summary of the schedule:
  • Day 2, Rolling Stones: The classic doc Gimme Shelter, plus a "mystery sneak peek" of "an eagerly awaited major rock 'n' roll film that will be seen by the public for the first time." Any guesses what this is? The fest organizers imply it's not Martin Scorsese's Rolling Stones doc Shine a Light, as it's not finished yet. Or is it?
  • Day 3, Joy Division: The acclaimed new Ian Curtis biopic Control, which earned raves at Cannes and Toronto (including from Cinematical's James Rocchi).
  • Day 4, Otis Redding: World premiere theatrical screening of Dreams to Remember: The Legacy of Otis Redding, which features 16 full-length performances by the musician. Also: footage filmed at the 1967 Stax Revue featuring Redding's five-song set.
  • Day 5, Jimi Hendrix: World premiere screening of American Landing: Jimi Hendrix Live at Monterey, centered around Hendrix's legendary appearance at the festival in 1967.
All the events are at Grauman's Egyptian Theatre and The Aero Theatre in L.A. More details at the Mods & Rockers website.
