Welcome to The (Mostly) Indie Film Calendar, a weekly look at what's happening beyond the multiplexes all around North America. If you know of something indie-related happening near you -- a local festival, a series of classic restored films, lectures, workshops, etc. -- send the info to me at Eric.Snider(at)weblogsinc(dot)com and I'll add it to the list.

  • The Hammer is a comedy about a former boxer who gets a new shot at Olympic glory -- and it stars Adam Carolla, of all people. Opens today in New York and a bunch of locations out West: L.A., Portland, Seattle, San Francisco, etc.
  • Planet B-Boy is a documentary following several breakdancing crews on their way to an international competition. It's bounced around the festival circuit for a year or so and now hits theaters in New York and L.A.
  • Race comes to us from India. IMDb says it's a thriller. It's opening in several dozen locations nationwide. That's all I know!
