I've heard historians compare medieval stained glass windows to comic books, illustrating Bible stories for an illiterate population -- but I don't think I've ever seen a real comic book window until now. The above was made by artist Chris Roth for an art exhibit honoring Stan Lee and was, shockingly, his first attempt at stained glass. It really is stunning, a rival for many that line the halls of European cathedrals. If this whets your appetite for nerdy stained glass, there's more compiled by over at Worth1000 (some of which you can check out in the gallery below, including Darth Vader, Link, The Simpsons, Mystique and Pyramid Head). I've long coveted a custom stained glass window and while my list is topped by medieval replicas, if an aspiring artist wants to recreate this panel for me, I'd cherish it forever.
