There was a time when musicals were relegated to replays of the classics -- usually tales of romance belted out on stage or screen. But in the wake of adaptations like Monty Python and the Holy Grail and Evil Dead: The Musical, just about anything and everything is getting the musical treatment -- so much so that I wonder how long it will take for us to break out into our own musical numbers, like a demon-free Once More, With Feeling.

For now, we're going to see another cult classic hit the musical scene. Variety reports that Chris Wyatt (Napoleon Dynamite) and Mark Altman are cooking up a remake of the sixties cult classic They Saved Hitler's Brain as a sci-fi musical comedy. The title explains it all. After WWII, the Nazis remove Hitler's living head and hide it with the plan to get the Third Reich another shot some time in the future.

That's right -- we'll get to see a decapitated Hitler singing catchy tunes. ...just when you think that you've seen everything! Jon and Al Kaplan, who wrote up such gems like Silence! Silence of the Lambs: The Musical and 24: Season 2 -- The Musical will supply the songs.

Any Hitler's Brain fans out there crying out in despair or glee?
