So the scheduling worked out weird this year, with all of my FEARnet horror assignments falling within the first two days of the festival. But I've got the next few days mapped out with nothing but dramas, comedies, and maybe a few docos -- so get ready for a big Cinematical infusion of Weinberg. But I'd be remiss if I didn't mention a few things:

1. Jonathan Liebesman's The Killing Room is a rather solid psychological thriller that boasts a few slick surprises and a very cool ensemble cast.

2. The Norwegian nazi-zombie flick Dead Snow is a very enthusiastic and gore-soaked little diversion, but...

3. The short that preceded Dead Snow is a miniature classic of comedy and horror. It's called Treevenge and it comes from the Canadian knuckleheads that gave us Hobo With a Shotgun. Suffice to say that Treevenge is just about the finest film ever made about homicidal Christmas treees. Silly, splattery, hilarious stuff.

4. Turns out that my next door neighbor here at the Yarrow was Mr. Brandon T. Jackson. We shared a quick conversation as he was checking out, and you know what? One of the nicest, coolest celebs I've ever shared a few minutes with. I guess he appreciated when I said he more than held his own opposite Robert Downey Jr. in Tropic Thunder, but I'm always surprised when famous folks are so laid-back and friendly.

5. Not looking good for my beloved Eagles right now, but the game's not over yet!
