Yesterday Cinematical picked up a story sourced to Production Weekly about an unofficial announcement that Dwayne Johnson would be taking the captain's helm on McG's forthcoming Jules Verne adaptation, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. As it turns out, timeliness has its shortcomings as well as its advantages: an hour ago, SCI FI Wire quoted an interview conducted today with director McG where he says that he hasn't even spoke to Johnson, and has instead reached out to Will Smith for the part.
According to McG himself, "I've never spoken to Dwayne Johnson about this. I like him. He's great. He's a wonderful human being and an excellent screen presence, but we have not spoken about 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. Not a word."
