John Cusack in 2012It's the end of the world as we know it. Again. Courtesy of director Roland Emmerich. Again.

The man who has made a career (and a very respectable living) with disaster-movie blockbusters such as 'Independence Day' and 'The Day After Tomorrow' is at it again, this time with the apocalyptic thriller '2012,' the title of which refers to the Mayan calendar's prophecy that the world will come to an end on Dec. 21, 2012.

A new five-minute scene from the film, which stars John Cusack as a writer who uses his knowledge of ancient Mayan prophecies to ensure that his family -- and the human race as we know it -- isn't wiped out when cataclysmic events begin occurring across the globe, shows Cusack frantically trying to get said family out of Los Angeles before the place sinks in to the ocean. In true Emmerich fashion, buildings explode, stuff blows up, Hollywood goes bye-bye, and everyone is entertained. Watch the clip after the jump.
