Despite a few delightfully gory moments and an interesting ending, the Alexandre Aja helmed Mirrors was an utter disappointment. Entirely too formulaic for its own good, the film failed miserably among critics but managed to pull in just over $72,000,000 worldwide, effectively doubling its budget. Of course, it should be no shock that a sequel is in the works.

Bloody Disgusting reports that Victor Garcia will be directing the sequel to the 2008 pseudo-remake of the 2003 South Korean horror movie Into the Mirror. The plot of the film follows one Max Matheson, a man who has become suicidal after the death of his fiance in a car accident he feels responsible. He takes a job as a night security guard at a department store owned by his father only to begin seeing a girl in the mirrors while his co-workers die all around him. It seems safe to say that neither Kiefer Sutherland nor director Alex Aja will be involved with the sequel.

Given the generally negative reviews of Mirrors (it holds a 15% approval rate on Rotten Tomatoes), it comes as no surprise that Mirrors 2 will be released direct-to-DVD. Production begins this November in Louisiana from a script penned by Matt Venne.
