Watching any video on the internet that purports to show something amazing is a tricky proposition. There are outrageous feats of basketball acrobatics, tsunami surfing, and UFO activity. The trick is, now that fancy pants cameras and top-notch editing software is in the hands of the unwashed masses, some jerk in his dorm room can fake just about anything.

Set all of that aside. Put your jaded cynicism away, shut your critical eye, and treat some of these as fiction meant to be enjoyed -- in 3 minute nuggets. Out of all of the random and inconsequential nonsense that surfaces, the scary stuff is often the best. I'll even go so far as to say that some of the videos out there offer more genuine scares in their limited run time than most feature length horror films of the last 10 years. The most effective of them harness that low-fi sensibility that allowed Paranormal Activity to get under your skin.
