Our good friends over at Shock Till You Drop have an interesting bit of gaming news up this morning, something that should please the millions and millions of gamers who just can't get enough zombie action.

Today, industry veteran and former NCSoft employee Jeff Strand announced the formation of his new game development studio: Undead Labs. The fledgling company has one ambitious goal in mind--to create the definitive online console zombie experience. In a world overflowing with zombie games, Strand hopes this title will stand apart from the masses by being the first Massively Multiplayer Online Zombie Game (or MMOZ for short).

The developer spoke a bit about the impetus behind his decision. "Every time I see a good zombie movie with friends, we spend days debating our strategies for surviving the zombie apocalypse," said Strain. "The police station, or the supermarket? Garden rake, or staple gun? Bach, or the White Stripes? I'm a game developer, so I'd probably be useless for anything other than ghoul bait, but I'm excited to have the opportunity to build an MMOZ that lets us put those strategies to the test and find out for sure."

Normally, I'd be a little wary of an announcement like this; lots of developers have big dreams that never come to fruition. However, if you take a peek at Strand's pedigree you'll see he's done some very impressive things in his career. Some of the highlights include being a programmer on Blizzard's Starcraft and Diablo, working as one of the early developers on World of Warcraft, and serving as Executive Producer on Guild Wars. If there's a shortlist of people who could pull off this kind of project, Strand's on it.
