It's been known for some time now that a sequel to the indie slasher Hatchet was in the works over at Anchor Bay, but it was not known how much involvement original creator Adam Green would have. However, today Green told Shock Till You Drop that he is officially returning as both writer and director for the no-longer hypothetical Hatchet 2: "It's finally happening," Green enthused. "It's going to have double the body count and Anchor Bay is being cool enough to allow me to make the sequel I want to make."

Specifics beyond that are a little on the slim side, though Bloody-Disgusting did manage to grab this shooting synopsis: "HATCHET 2 follows Marybeth as she escapes from the clutches of Victor Crowley, learns the truth about his curse, and heads back into the haunted New Orleans swamp to seek revenge for her family and kill Victor Crowley once and for all..."

Green did confirm that Kane Hodder will be returning as the murderous swamp-man Victor Crowley, but there is no mention as to whether or not any of the film's original cast would be joining him back on set. That's okay, though, as Shock wisely points out having some of the film's original actors return would be a bit of a logistical nightmare, seeing as most are either dead or now missing limbs and presumed dead.

Filming for Hatchet 2 will begin sometime next year, my guess is not too long after Adam Green's latest film, the trapped-on-a-ski-lift flick Frozen, opens in February. In the mean time, I've once again embedded Green's Jack Chop below because, hey, why not? It never gets old.
