The ever-prolific sci-fi/fantasy great Michael Moorcock will be writing the next Doctor Who novel, due for publication by next Christmas according to the author. Moorcock -- perhaps best known for his Elric of Melniboné books -- hasn't looked back since cutting his teeth as an editor on the Tarzan Adventures comic books in 1956...at the tender age of 16. He has nearly 100 books to his name, including the Multiverse of the Eternal Champion books, which has sequences of books from the 1960s to as recent as 2005.

In short, this man has literally created worlds upon worlds. He comes from the tradition of Edgar Rice Burroughs and J.R.R. Tolkien and counts Alan Moore as a friend and fan. So if, as an anxious Doctor Who fan, you find yourself doubting Moorcock...don't.

Moorcock has stressed that he has been watching Doctor Who in its many incarnations since the show first aired. BBC Books's proposition isn't the first time he has been approached to pen something Doctor Who-related. For whatever the reason, the legendary Brit decided now was the time to throw his hat into the Doctor Who canon.
