I've been cautiously optimistic about Sega's new Aliens Vs. Predator game since seeing clips of it at E3 earlier this year. You'd think, with something as awesome as the aliens from the Alien franchise duking it out with some Predators and space marines that this would be a slam dunk. As exhibit A and B in my argument for why this is not a given, I give you the two Aliens Vs. Predators movies.
That being said, I'm starting to give in to my fanboy desire to love this game. Each new clip Sega releases makes the title look like it's on the right track and leaves me a little more giddy at the notion of taking out marines as one of the two extra-terrestrial factions. The newest clip, released this week, highlight's the game's multiplayer modes. I tend to be more interested in single-player campaigns, but this might be the game that gets me to fire up the old Xbox Live.
Of the various modes discussed, the one wherein a player takes the role of a single Predator squaring off against eight marines sounds the most interesting. Picking off a squadron of well-armed soldiers by using the Predator's cloaking and weaponry sounds like a recipe for hours of good times to me.
Don't take my word for it, though. Jump past the break and check out the lengthy new trailer. Aliens Vs. Predator is due out next year and will be available on the PS3, Xbox 360, and PC (sorry, Wii owners...).
