It looks like the six-foot invisible rabbit of 'Harvey' fame will stay invisible -- at least for now.

Variety reports that Steven Spielberg has abandoned his planned remake of 'Harvey,' the beloved James Stewart film based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning play by Mary Chase. The 'Harvey' remake has been difficult to put together since Spielberg committed to the project last August, starting with the director being unable to cast his first choice for the lead role, Tom Hanks, who apparently was reluctant to take on such an iconic character. Spielberg then courted Robert Downey, Jr. for the role, but the two suffered from the ever-popular "creative differences." Finally, Spielberg called the whole thing off.
