EA finally confirmed one of the worst kept secrets in gaming history yesterday and horror fans could finally rejoice: Dead Space 2 is coming.
Visceral Ventures will develop the follow-up to one of last year's surprise hits that wasn't a sequel. Details are scarce at the moment, but we do know that unlikely hero Isaac Clarke will be returning to help stop the Necromorph plague threatening to overrun the galaxy. Kotaku shared this statement from the official press release:
"We're thrilled to jump back into the series, making the next chapter in Isaac's journey," said Steve Papoutsis, Executive Producer of Dead Space 2. "The infection continues to spread throughout space and our hero Isaac Clarke is the only person able to contain it. There are still loads of Necromorphs that need killing. In Dead Space 2, not everything is exactly as it seems. Expect plot twists that will surprise you and a huge cast of twisted, disgusting monsters that are sure to scare the daylights out of you."
Players are promised new tools to go along with the infamous Plasma Cutter of the first game, more zero-g environments, and a batch of new characters filling out the story. Oh, and this time Isaac is in charge--no more running around like a good little errand boy.
Dead Space 2 doesn't have an official release date yet, but we'll keep you up to date on all the details as they become available.
