Can't say that Men In Black 3 ever seemed like a terribly interesting prospect, especially considering how the last one went. But if the powers that be at Sony have their hearts set on a trilogy (they do), tossing a name like Josh Brolin into the mix certainly couldn't hurt building up some anticipation toward the project.

Steven Zeitchick over at the LA Times is reporting that Brolin is in consideration to star in MIB 3. How exactly this agent character would fit into the scheme of things with Agent K (Tommy Lee Jones) and Agent J (Will Smith) remains to be seen, as does Brolin's actual involvement. Sony has yet to greenlight the picture, but the studio may start production some time in 2010, with shooting to take place at least partially in New York. Etan Cohen (Tropic Thunder) wrote the script and Barry Sonnenfeld is tentatively penciled in to return to the director's chair.

Brolin is definitely one of the more talented (and busy) actors working right now, and his previous work in Planet Terror! and upcoming lead role in Jonah Hex shows the guy doesn't think he's above genre (and that's not even counting The Goonies, which Brolin appeared in when he was about 19-years-old). It's nice to see actors who take their craft just seriously enough, but not self-seriously. Oscar nominess can get campy too.

So, readers, what do you think? Does the idea of Brolin chasing aliens warm you up to another Men In Black?
