Just a quick announcement for those of you who have been holding out on Pontypool until it gets a Region 1 release in the United States. Dread Central says IFC has just pegged a January 26th, 2010 DVD date for Bruce McDonald's unique and excellent spin on a viral zombie outbreak in a small town in Canada. It's easily one of my favorite horror movies of the year, but don't take my word for it if you happen to, well, not trust my word. Fellow Horror Squader Brad McHargue crowned it the best horror film of 2009:

"I really can't say enough good things about this film. Based on the novel Pontypool Changes Everything by Tony Burgess, it features an outstanding performance by Stephen McHattie as Grant Mazzy, a radio personality who reports on a series of strange occurrences wherein individuals exhibit bizarre behavior focused primarily on the repetition of words. Highly unique and containing some of the best dialogue I have ever heard in a horror film, Pontypool is a monumental achievement in film-making, and much like Carriers, if you consider yourself a horror fan, you will seek this film out and give it your undivided attention."
