Mamoru Oshii (Ghost in the Shell) has announced he will soon start working on a film adaptation of Mitsuteru Yokoyama's manga "Tetsujin 28-go." Oshii announced the new project during a discussion of his latest film, the live-action Assault Girls.
The manga was adapted as a television series in 1963 and 2004, as well as another feature film in 2005. Earlier this year, Oshii directed a stage play of the titular robot which featured an 1,100 pound, 20 foot tall replica of the titular robot. Not that it's the first replica; earlier this year, a life sized version of the robot Tetsujin 28 was set for Shin-Nagata Kobe, Japan this October (pictured above).
Adding to the plethora of Tetsujin 28, Mitsuteru Yokoyama is attached to yet another adaptation set for 2011, under the name Gigantor, which is being produced by Hikari Productions and IMAGI Entertainment. It's unclear if Gigantor will be live action or animated.
