I'll be honest, I don't really get the whole avatar/Mii thing that's come along with this generation of gaming. Sure, there's the novelty of making something that looks like a cutesy animated form of yourself (or a hideously deformed CHUD-like creature who should have been killed at birth...), but once that five minutes or so has passed, I never think about these things again.
Apparently others do, though, because Microsoft has made a fair chunk of change over the past few years by selling additional "outfits" and theme packs to gamers who want to play dress up with their virtual dolls. The newest stuff on display features a lot of sports gear (which no one here cares about) and a slew of new shirts and other goodies tied in to EA's popular survival horror game, Dead Space. Best of all are the new Isaac suit and helmet combo--allowing you to relive the game every time you log in on your 360...or something. I mean, I just don't see the point.
I really don't see the point when you factor in what it will cost to go "full Isaac" with the suit and the helmet. As far as I can tell, you have to buy each piece separately (the body and the headgear) and that's going to set you back 480 MS points. If the handy conversion calculator I looked up is accurate, that's six bucks in real world money--for something that doesn't even do anything. Far be it from to judge how you spend your money. If you've got an extra $6 in Christmas booty burning a hole in your pocket, have at it.
