Documentarian Nick Broomfield ('Kurt and Courtney,''Biggie and Tupac') has never been one to shy away from controversial or unpopular subjects. In 1992, he released 'Aileen Wuornos: The Selling of a Serial Killer,' detailing the investigation and trial of one of America's first female serial killers.

A decade later, with Wuornos awaiting execution on Death Row, Broomfield revisits the inmate in 'Aileen: The Life and Death of a Serial Killer' for another illuminating look into her condition and fragile mental state since her conviction. Released to coincide with 'Monster,' the Charlize Theron film loosely based on Wuornos's life, 'Aileen' starts off with a meta twist, as Broomfield himself is called to testify at her appeal, using his prior movie as evidence.
