Even some of this year's Oscar nominated movies contain a high proportion of films that began life as great books such as Up in the Air (Walter Kirn's 2001 novel), An Education (Journalist Lynn Barber's 2009 memoirs) and Precious (the 1996 debut novel of American author and poet Sapphire).

Yep, it would appear that Hollywood's screenwriters have been nipping over to their local libraries for years now to unearth previously written material for inspiration - and who can blame them.
