Awesome news from Collider this morning--Warner Bros. has acquired the distribution rights to Vincenzo Natali's Frankenstein-esque horror film, Splice.
The title stars Sarah Polley and Adrien Brody as two scientists who embark on a dangerous journey when they splice human DNA into preexisting genetically-engineered experiments. Splice played Sundance earlier this year and garnered loads of positive buzz.
Warner Bros. has plans to release the film theatrically on June 4th--putting it right smack dab in the middle of the summer blockbuster season. If that doesn't tell you the company has a great deal of faith in this the title, I don't know what will. That opening weekend is crowded (Get Him to the Greek, Killers, Marmadukeand Ondine also debut), but Splice will be the only genre film. In theory, that should help its box office tally.
No word yet on when we might see an official trailer for Splice, but with Warner's marketing department on the job, I'd guess it'll be sooner rather than later. We'll bring you that here at Horror Squad as soon as it's released.
