The tagline for Star Crystal (1986) is "It is the year 2035. Scientists have discovered a new life form. They're about to wish they hadn't." I'll give you three tries to guess the film's primary influence.
I haven't seen Star Crystal, but if this extensive X-Entertainment write-up is any indication, I'm probably better off just appreciating the film's outstanding cover art. Though I'll admit that XE's note that the film is "recommended for those who enjoy terrible b-movies and for anyone who ever wanted to see a pile of alien guts read an electronic Bible" is almost enough to make me want to devote 91 minutes of my life to Star Crystal. Almost.
