Looks like we may yet see a second (and third) term for President Bill Pullman.

IESB is reporting that not one but two sequels to the 1996 alien-invasion blockbuster 'Independence Day' are close to happening.

The idea of a sequel has always been on the minds of writer-producers Dean Devlin and Roland Emmerich, but for years the studio was hesitant to pony up the dough for its planned star, Will Smith. (Emmerich goes into a pretty detailed rundown of the situation, which includes something called "gross point fees," with the Latino Review here.)

But the recent, record-breaking success of James Cameron's 'Avatar' has left the studio open to pursue big-spending projects. While they wait for Cameron to film a sequel, it appears they're turning to Devlin, Emmerich and Big Willie himself.
