After Dark Films is a brand I have long had a love-hate relationship with, but really that's not all that strange considering I have a love-hate relationship with a lot of films and filmmakers in the horror business. On the one hand, I genuinely do admire what they attempt every year with the After Dark Horrorfest. I think it's a very cool and noble idea, but I also think it fails every year due to the double whammy of poor market penetration (no theaters in Austin partook in ADF4, for example) and a consistently uneven roster of films.
Despite the drawbacks, though, I do look forward to projects ADF attaches themselves to, so I'm quite curious to see how their newly announced line of After Dark Originals, films wholly financed and produced by the studio, turns out. The first film they've unveiled is Prowl, which sounds like quite the cool little creature feature. From the press release:
