Jacob Twilight New MoonIn 2009, Hollywood struck pay dirt with blockbusters like 'Twilight,' 'Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen,' 'G. I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra' and 'Star Trek,' all raking in wheelbarrows of cash at the box office. But the space age future is here and movieland has learned to change with the times. Quite often, a movie is greenlit not just because it's bankable at the box office, but because it has a future in the home entertainment market as well.

Since the VCR and Betamax kindled the home theater industry, the performance of movies in stores has played a huge part in how studios do business. Disney has an enormous line of cartoons that are designed specifically for the DVD market, because families with children tend to buy more DVDs than families without. Take a look at a list of 2009's best-selling DVDs and you'll see they're filled with animation and other family fare.

So what were the top-grossing DVD titles of 2009 and why did they do so well? Let's take a look. All information courtesy of www.the-numbers.com.
