Joe: The Rise of Cobra' and 'Star Trek,' all raking in wheelbarrows of cash at the box office. But the space age future is here and movieland has learned to change with the times. Quite often, a movie is greenlit not just because it's bankable at the box office, but because it has a future in the home entertainment market as well.

Since the VCR and Betamax kindled the home theater industry, the performance of movies in stores has played a huge part in how studios do business.
