There are very few directors working today that can turn just about anything into art, and I think Spike Jonze is one of them. It doesn't matter if it's a skateboard video, a feature/short film, or even a commercial for the Gap -- you are guaranteed something unlike anything you've seen before. And, luckily for his fans, he likes to keep busy. /Film got the exclusive on the director's latest project: a top secret film about friends growing apart. Jonze isn't going at it alone, though, as word has it he's working with the 'art rock' band Arcade Fire and is currently out in Texas casting "mainly teens" for what will most likely be another short film.

The news of Jonze's latest collaboration comes only a few months after his last short, the robot-themed love story I'm Here, premiered at the Sundance film festival and then made a splash on the web. Jonze broke into the 'big time' in the early days of his career making videos for Fatboy Slim, Weezer, and the Beastie Boys, but has continued to work with musicians like Kanye West for the long format video, We Were Once a Fairytale, and Yeah Yeah Yeahs singer, Karen O, on Where The Wild Things Are. Arcade Fire also remixed their own song, "Wake Up", for Wild Things.

But as much as I do enjoy Jonze's short format work, there is a small part of me that wishes he would get back to making feature films again. It doesn't look like that is going to happen any time soon, though, and there is nothing on the horizon -- at least nothing we're being told about. Until he does land on his next feature, I guess I'll l just have to content myself with another mind-blowing short ... which ain't half-bad, I suppose.
