I've wanted to see Starcrash ever since I first saw the trailer unspool during a pre-show at the Alamo Drafthouse. Not because it looks good, but because it looks very, very bad. In this Italian Star Wars knock-off, two smugglers (real-life evangelism prodigy Marjoe Gortner and babe-licious Caroline Munro) are enlisted to help the Emperor of the Galaxy (Christopher Plummer) rescue his son from the evil Count Zarth Arn (Joe Spinell). Yes, there are plenty of stop-motion robots, model spaceships, and laser swords fights.

The film was directed by Luigi Cozzi, the man behind some of my favorite bad movies of all time -- the Lou FerrignoHercules films. Starcrash is out-of-print on DVD, but the film must have some pretty devoted fans because a used copy will still set you back about fifty bucks.

The trailer and the amazing original Italian poster (featuring a shirtless muscleman and big-bottomed girl wearing nothing but leopard skin undies, oddly enough) can be seen in full after the jump.
