Namco-Bandai's updated version of classic coin-muncher Splatterhouse isn't due out until sometime this fall, but that hasn't stopped the company from releasing trailers and promotional images for the game. Gametrailers scored the latest preview, a two-minute long clip showing off main character Rick and some gameplay.
Longtime fans have been slightly conflicted on the new Splatterhouse and the game's development cycle has had a few rough spots (developer Bottle Rocket was removed from the project last year, then some of the team members were brought back to finish the game), so I'm not sure what to expect, but I'm hoping for the best. Rick, the Terror Mask-wearing juggernaut, was one of my favorite videogame characters growing up, mostly because controlling him was like getting play as Jason Voorhees.
This time out, Rick is once again on a quest to save his girlfriend from the evil Dr. West. Completing this objective will require him to kick, punch, pummel, eviscerate, decapitate (and every other violent adjective you can think of) hordes of nasty beasts inside the doctor's mansion.
The new trailer spends a lot of time showing the audience the new Rick (one of the of the potential bones of contention amongst longtime fans. Rick's new looks is kinda odd) dealing out beatdowns to the strains opera. It eventually shifts gears to gameplay footage, which looks impressive, if a bit like a horror version of God of War. That's not necessarily a bad thing.
Jump past the break to check out the new clip. Splatterhouse will be available for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in Q3 of this year.
