I'm not ashamed to say that I was a little late to the party when it came to the comedian Aziz Ansari. Sometimes there just aren't enough hours in the day to get in all the pop culture you would like and unfortunately, Ansari's work on the Human Giant fell through the cracks. Luckily, now that he's a principal player on the hilarious NBC comedy, Parks and Recreation and the 'Randy phenomenon' (thanks to Judd Apatow's Funny People), Ansari has been introduced to a whole new audience (myself included), and he's about to get another boost in 'celebrity quotient' as MTV's official pick for host of their 2010 MTV Flick Awards.

It certainly has been a good couple of years for the comedian, and it's just going to get better by the looks of things. By 2009, Ansari and his partner Jason Woliner (a collaborator on Giant) had landed a deal with Universal and Apatow for a three picture deal, and Ansari already had two successful seasons of Parks and Recreation under his belt. Of course, his hosting duties will be perfectly timed with the release of the unofficial Forgetting Sarah Marshall follow-up, Get Him to The Greek in which Ansari has a small role.

Even though Ansari may seem like an unlikely choice for the festivities, if you happen to follow him on Twitter, then you probably already know that he can be quite entertaining when it comes to film commentary (trust me when I tell you his live-tweet of Twilight was the stuff of legend). But I'll keep my fingers crossed for the the funny man, because it isn't easy to make it through an MTV award show unscathed -- just ask Ansari's Greek co-star, Russell Brand.
