Railing about remakes has gotten old, I'll be the first to admit. We all know that Hollywood is churning out new versions of old films with frightening regularity and honestly, I don't think there's anything left to say about it that hasn't been said a billion times before.

However, once in awhile news of a new remake project comes along that's so shocking and bizarre that I feel compelled to scratch my head and mutter "WTF?" This is one of those moments.

Moviehole.net is reporting that Warner Bros. is currently developing a 3D remake of Wes Craven's forgettable 1986 film, Deadly Friend. That title revolved around a young nerd who befriends his abused neighbor (played by Kristy Swanson). When her father kills her, the neighbor boy places his robot's brain in her skull -- with disastrous results.

Widely regarded as one of Craven's worst efforts (although not quite as bad as The Hills Have Eyes 2), the film is memorable for one scene: The head explosion via basketball. I wrote it about a few months ago in a Death Scenes We Love installment that you can check out if you're bored.

This project is in the very early stages of pre-production and with any luck it will stay there. We'll keep you posted on this one as more details come to light.
