I'm a big Alexandre Aja fan, but not for the reasons you might think. I know I often disagree with my Horror Squad kindred around here and this will be no exception. I didn't like Haute Tension, but I adored his remake of the Hills Have Eyes. (Let's just gloss over Mirrors, shall we?) His adeptness at mingling the nail biting aspects of a good chase scene with some stylish gore puts him head and shoulders around so many filmmakers these days.

The new, official trailer for his remake of the Corman classic, Piranha 3D, has hit the web and I'll be honest - this looks absolutely ridiculous. Granted, the original was campy to the gills and this one looks similar, but I was really hoping for some edge-of-my-seat terror. Plus, the 3D generated beasties look kind of awful, if you ask me. You've got Christopher Lloyd chewing up the scenery and I'm pretty sure I spotted Eli Roth as a loud-mouthed bit of fish bait.

Jaws... lots and lots of jaws. From acclaimed director Alexandre Aja (The Hills Have Eyes) comes the new action thriller PIRANHA 3D, in the latest eye-popping 3D technology. A new type of terror is about to be cut loose on beautiful Lake Victoria. After a sudden underwater tremor sets free scores of the prehistoric man-eating fish, an unlikely group of strangers must band together to stop themselves from becoming fish food for the area's new razor-toothed residents. But our heroine (Elisabeth Shue) is seriously outnumbered, and with only one chance to save the lake and her family from totally being devoured, she must risk everything to destroy the aquatic carnivores herself."
