There seems to be some question as to whether or not Marvel's Thor will click with movie audiences. It's a fair question, but Marvel's track record with unproven heroes is solid at this point. I've heard this argument before with Blade and even Iron Man, which turned out to be a box office powerhouse. Thor is a superhero film that blends fantastical Norse mythology elements with the kind of crowd-pleasing action Marvel Studios is becoming known for. Really, how can it lose?
What's more, Thor's not even that unproven. It's not like we're talking about a big-budget version of Sleepwalker or Moon Knight. This is one of Marvel's most recognizable heroes, in large part because Marvel didn't create him -- vikings did. Chris Hemsworth, who will wield the hammer Mjolnir for director Kenneth Branagh in the Summer 2011 flick, isn't even the first guy to play the Thunder God.
