They're making a new Judge Dredd movie. It will be 3D. Alex Garland, writer of 28 Days Later and Sunshine, is behind the script. Pete Travis, director of Vantage Point, will sit behind the camera. There was a previous 1995 adaptation, a box office disaster starring Sylvester Stallone.
Those are the facts, but this is a situation where my pop culture knowledge hits a brick wall and I'm not sure what else to add. In desperate time such as these, I turn to an old buddy of mine, someone who is rarely reliable but always there when I need him. What does mighty Wikipedia have to say about one Judge Dredd?
"Judge Joe Dredd is a comics character whose strip in the British science fiction anthology 200 AD is the magazine's longest running (having been featured there since its second issue in 1977). Dredd is a law enforcement officer in a violent city of the future where uniformed Judges combine the powers of police, judge, jury and executioner. Dredd and his fellow Judges are empowered to arrest, sentence and even execute criminals on the spot."
