Over the last few years, video games have become a popular source of inspiration for Hollywood. Since the success of Angelina Jolie's 'Lara Croft: Tomb Raider,' games like 'Resident Evil,''Hitman' and 'Max Payne' have all been brought to the big screen, which is understandable since their high octane action concepts and built-in fan bases are the perfect mix for a potential blockbuster.

And then there's 'Rollercoaster Tycoon.'

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Sony Pictures has acquired the rights to a big screen adaptation of 'Rollercoaster Tycoon,' the popular video game from Atari that allows players to design and manage their own roller coasters and theme parks. Described as a "live action/CGI hybrid,' the movie will be written by 'The Smurfs' scribes David Ronn and Jay Scherick.
