Universal has finally released the first trailer for The Adjustment Bureau, George Nolfi's adaptation of Philip K. Dick's short story Adjustment Team. The film stars Matt Damon as a congressman and rising star in the political realm who begins to fall for a ballerina, Emily Blunt, after a chance encounter. However, it appears as though events are conspiring to keep the two apart. When Damon's David Norris tries to figure out why, he discovers that there are agents of change beyond his control that keep everyone in the world on their predestined path.

As far as sci-fi in 2010 goes, The Adjustment Bureau certainly looks to be aiming for the cerebral side of things over big budget spectacle, but I do think it looks fantastic, particularly in the casting department. John Slattery and Terence Stamp as members of the titular agency is inspired casting (can Slattery wear anything but a suit?) while both Blunt and Damon look to have a plausible chemistry between the two of them.

You can see how the Adjustment Bureau's plan comes together on September 17, 2010.
