On Monday, Disney gave Aline Brosh McKenna seven figures for a live-action Cinderella pitch. Today, Pajiba finds out that we're also getting another Wizard of Oz sequel / reimagining / what-have-you, from a gal who played a reimagined Cinderella some 12 years ago. According to their sources, Warner Bros and Flower Films are resurrecting Surrender Dorothy, and Flower head Drew Barrymore will make this her second directorial feature (following Whip It).

This film started brewing all the way back in 2002, and back then, Zach Helm (Stranger Than Fiction) had written a script that would have Barrymore star. She was to play the great, great grandaughter of Dorothy, who has to pull out the antique ruby red slippers to smack down the Wicked Witch of the West, who wants to control both Oz and Earth. The feature seemed to disappear as soon as it arrived, staying silent until now, presumably because of the success of Tim Burton's Alice re-do. Pajiba doesn't know whether Drew will still play the new Dorothy (or whatever her name is), or whether they'll be looking elsewhere for a star.

It's an interesting follow-up to the roller derby, that's for sure. Will it be like Ever After? Something entirely fresh? As long as it's nothing like Babes in Toyland, we should be fine.
