After the devastation of Torchwood: Children of Earth, Captain Jack needed a new playing field. ...Okay look -- I must refer to the end of that miniseries, so if you're worried about spoilers, stop reading, get watching, and catch up already.
Torchwood was trucking along, trying to find its footing when things got changed up. One by one, the members of the team got killed off until only Captain Jack, Ianto, Gwen, and her hubby Rhys were left. Then Children of Earth came and Ianto went down and headquarters was obliterated. By the end, Jack teleported off to try and ease his guilt over sacrificing a child to stop the alien attack, and no one was left to save Britain from aliens except the Doctor. Basically, nothing was left of the show that was.
After much speculation and rumors that seemed to have fizzled into nothing, the BBC has teamed with Starz to send Captain Jack and Gwen stateside (and across the world) for ten episodes that will be written by Russell T. Davies. The series is slated to air in the summer of 2011.
