Another game we've been following here at Horror Squad -- Namco's updating of the classic horror side-scroller Splatterhouse -- turned up on the E3 show floor yesterday. G4 was cool enough to post not one, but two new videos of the title in action so we can all see how Rick's doing in his latest adventure.

From the two clips on display, the game seems to be shaping up pretty well. The graphics aren't mind-blowing, but Splatterhouse definitely has an artistic style that complements the horror story vibe of the narrative. Fans worried that the game has shifted from a pure side-scrolling platformer beat-'em-up into a more open-ended brawler will be at least somewhat pleased to know that the gameplay footage showcases several instances of side-scrolling platforming just like the originals.

The biggest concern in the pieces is the lack of variety in the gameplay. Rick doesn't show off very many moves in the videos, making me worry that the experience of beating up the evil monsters roaming the mansion is going to get stale fast. We've heard that Rick comes with a variety of moves, so hopefully someone from Namco will show us more of them in the next few days.

Finally, we do get to see at least one cool enemy -- a giant monster with chainsaws for hands who confronts Rick in an elevator stuck on the 13th floor. Unfortunately, we don't get to see the ensuing showdown between these two titans, but I'm sure we will when the game launches later this year.
