Anchor Bay has announced that it's bringing Adam Green's breakout feature film, Hatchet, to Blu-ray. Even among Horror Squad writers, the film has it's fair share of ardent supporters as well as vocal detractors, but there's no denying that Green is a horror lover. His most recent film, Frozen, is a solid atmospheric flick that will make you think twice about skiing or snowboarding. Green has since been hard at work on Hatchet 2, shooting in New Orleans and LA. The sequel is currently in post-production, eyeing an eventual release this fall.

Green was recently asked on Twitter whether or not he approved the new high def transfer of Hatchet for this Blu-ray release. He responded that if it looked as good as Anchor Bay's Blu-ray release of his film Spiral, then he would be very happy. I haven't had a chance to check out the Spiral Blu-ray myself, but I love the film and can't wait to see how it looks in HD.

The new Blu-ray version of Hatchet includes the unrated director's cut of the film as well as a new audio commentary from Green and star Kane Hodder. Anchor Bay indicates that more special features will be announced prior to release. MSRP has been set at $29.97. You can look for Hatchet on Blu-ray starting September 7th or go ahead and pre-order it from Amazon now.
