January is traditionally one of the slowest months of the year at the box office, but now industry leaders have come up with a cunning plan to reverse their fortunes -- and it involves the Oscars.

Yep, according to Deadline, last night's Board of Governor's meeting at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences had an extra special discussion about the possibility of moving the Oscars to January. While no decision was reached, the move would mean that from a television perspective, the Oscars would lead off the busy annual awards season rather than end it.

Currently, of course, the Oscars don't take place until February, allowing competitors like the Golden Globes, the Screen Actor's Guild Awards and the BAFTA awards to hit the red carpet earlier, which some in the Academy feel lessens the impact of the Oscars.
