Taichi Inoue's Minamo touch screen interface isn't much of a touch screen considering the user never actually, you know, touches the screen, but it does look like it's positively ripped out of a sci-fi movie. It's a water-based "touch screen" solution that operates quite simply:
Step 1) Insert finger into water.
Step 2) There is no step two.
The contact-free touch screen system works thanks to a webcam and a custom-coded program that measures the placement of the person's finger tip and then moves the mouse on the screen accordingly. For the life of me I cannot imagine what advantage the Minamo (which is Japanese for "surface of water") has over a standard touch screen, but it's pretty neat all the same (what a coincidence that it comes to us via Neatorama).
