August is shaping up to be a very cool month for anyone who loves Piranha. The remake -- helmed by Alexandre Aja -- will finally make its theatrical debut (in gory 3D, no less!) and cult film lovers will be able to score the original film on DVD and Blu-ray as part of Shout Factory's Roger Corman Collection.

If you don't want to spend the cash to add this cult classic to your collection, but do want to relive all the flesh-devouring goodness, then VOD may be just the thing you're looking for. Luckily for you, this is also an option. Roger Corman himself has tapped Video On Demand Distributor FilmBuff to bring Piranha to cable companies across the country this August. The company, who is operated by Cinetic Rights Management, plans to have the film available for your viewing pleasure just in time to coincide with the release of the remake. Piranha will begin airing on cable providers such as Comcast, Verizon, Cox, and others starting on August 10th.

The original Piranha was produced by Corman, directed by genre veteran Joe Dante, and starred Bradford Dillman and Heather Menzies. The two unlikely heroes unwittingly release genetically altered piranha into the nearby river system and must race against time to save campers and visitors to a newly opened resort.

The flick is an unabashed Jaws rip off, but it's a great one. Menzies and Dillman make for an odd duo, but somehow it totally works.

Jump past the break to check out the original Piranha trailer and catch the film on your local cable provider's VOD service starting on August 10th.
