It would appear that Tom Cruise is thinking about getting the mothballs out of the old flying jacket and practising his volleyball skills again because, yup, it could be time for 'Top Gun 2.'

It's unsurprising news really, when you consider the scathing reviews and underwhelming box office performance in for his latest film, 'Knight and Day.' A bit like Meat Loaf making 'Bat Out Of Hell 2: Back Into Hell' -- Tom wants to remind us all how he got to the top in the first place.

Although this news has existed as rumor for years, the latest update on it comes from none other than Top Gun's producer, Jerry Bruckheimer, himself. He told MTV that he and his late partner, Don Simpson, once had a bash at it and then Tom took over to have a go at a sequel but nothing ever came of it.

Maybe now it's time to party like it's 1986 though, because Bruckheimer reckons the world is ready for an update on the adventures of Maverick: "We kicked around some ideas because the aviation community has completely changed since we made the movie a long time ago. So we have to find a way in and how to incorporate the Maverick character into it."
