Cloverfield director Matt Reeves has been given the unenviable task of remaking (or re-imagining -- it depends on who you ask) the cult classic Swedish vampire film Let the Right One In. Pessimism and cynicism are the order of the day when Let Me In comes up -- mostly because the original is not only a great film, but one made in the past few years. It's not exactly a title screaming out for a remake...

Expect the chorus of negativity to ramp up a notch today as the first trailer for the retelling is now online. You can find it after the jump.

My reaction to the short clip is that it isn't awful. Does it look like a slick Hollywood remake of a foreign film? Definitely. Does the music in the trailer suck? Undoubtedly. Does it at least give the illusion that it's trying to maintain the tone of the original? I think so -- and for me, that trumps some of the negatives. Look, I'm not saying this is going to be a great film -- and maybe my lowered expectations for a Let the Right One In remake are coloring my judgment a bit, but I don't think this looks awful. Trailers are funny -- you can't really judge a film from a few minutes of footage. That being said, I didn't see anything here that was so terrible that I'm boycotting this one.

Anyway, enough from me. Check it out after the break and let me know what you think in the comment section. Expect Let Me In to suck...your blood...on October 1st.
