A slew of casting changes for Scream 4 occurring while the film is actually shooting in Michigan could easily be taken as a bad omen, but I'm just going to ignore the ominous nature of what appear to be last-minute shifts simply because I do like the casting choices that are coming out of it. Last week Adam Brody, Marley Shelton and Erik Knudsen all signed on for Craven's fourth trip to Woodsboro, but this week the cast is getting a pair of hotties: Alison Brie (who plays Annie on NBC's Community) and Mary McDonnell (who played President Roslin on Battlestar Galactica) . Yes, I did just call Mary McDonnell a hottie.
The Wrap's exclusive report on the matter doesn't signal out who specifically McDonnell will be playing, but it does pin Brie to the role of Rebecca, the jealous personal assistant to Neve Campbell's Sidney Prescott. This is great news for me, as I'm a big fan of both of the actress' runs on television. In particular, I think Brie has proven quite capable of both comedy and dramatic poise (she play's Pete Campbell's wife on Mad Men), so it'll be very interesting to see the tone (or possibly insane sexuality) she brings to Scream 4.
I just hope these two casting decisions actually stick, seeing as both Lauren Graham and Lake Bell were confirmed to have recently dropped out of the project. So if you're keeping a list of who all is currently in the film, the most updated slate is: Neve Campbell, Courtney Cox, David Arquette, Emma Roberts, Hayden Panettiere, Rory Culkin, Nico Tortorella, Anthony Anderson, Marielle Jaffe, Marley Shelton, Adam Brody, Erik Knudsen, Mary McDonnell and Alison Brie. Phew, if Craven and company make me add/subtract from that list once more, I'm billing them for my carpal tunnel medical costs.
