Home Media Mag
and horror fiends Dread Central are teaming up to wax nostalgic about horror on home video for the second annual Reaper Awards. The event takes place at the historic and supposedly haunted Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel on October 12. "The Grimmys" will be awarded to the best horror DVDs and Blu-ray discs of the year -- and the panel of judges include several familiar names, including special celebrity judge Roger Corman.

Horror fans will help choose the Grimmy winners online between August 30 - October 1. The judges will be selecting nominees in eight categories, which include: Best Theatrical Title, Best Blu-ray Disc, Best Direct-to-Video Title, Best Packaging, Best Boxed Set/TV Series Set, Best Catalog Title, Best Indie/Foreign, and Best HD Transfer. There will also be a "Best Show" winner selected. Judges for Reaper 2 include: Home Media Magazine's publisher Thomas K. Arnold, and reviews and AgentDVD.com editor John Latchem; Steve "Uncle Creepy" Barton from DreadCentral.com; Brad "Mr. Disgusting" Miska of Bloody-Disgusting.com; ShockTillYouDrop.com's Ryan Turek aka "Ryan Rotten"; Staci Wilson of Horror.com; Lawrence Raffel of Fearnet.com.

Low-budget king Roger Corman -- who seems like the nicest guy ever on all the new Shout! Factory DVD and Blu commentaries -- was recently the recipient of an award himself in 2009 when he won an honorary Academy Award. His presence guarantees that this year's festivities are sure to be aces.

Stay tuned to the official Reaper website for further details -- which I'm sure we'll be gabbing about as well in the near future.
