Back in December, Sony got its hands on the English-language rights to the Swedish phenomenon The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Soon every young name in Hollywood was said to be vying for the project, actresses from Carey Mulligan to Ellen Page eager to become Lisbeth Salander and kick some misogynist ass. Just to make a wise purchase even sweeter, David Fincher was tossed into the mix, adding a nice dose of sugar to a moviegoing public preferring to stick with the original.

Now we've got an official release date -- December 21, 2011 -- and it's only a matter of time until we find out who will be the next Lisbeth Salander and Mikael Blomkvist.
