Jurassic Park III director Joe Johnston sat down with the Los Angeles Times recently before he descended on the San Diego Comic Con to talk Captain America and while what he said wasn't exactly revelatory it does shed more light on who his Cap will be. Let's start with what we could have and probably already anticipated he would say: according to Johnston, the new Captain America movie will remain beholden to the original Lee/Kirby comics. At the same time, it will deviate from the skewed sense of nationalism that characterized the character when he debuted during World War 2.
Johnston said: "He wants to serve his country, but he's not this sort of jingoistic American flag-waver...He's just a good person. We make a point of that in the script: Don't change who you are once you go from Steve Rogers to this super-soldier...It'll be interesting and fun to put a different spin on the character and one that the fans are really going to appreciate."
